I am happy that Israeli President Peres is here and that Palestine’s President Abbas visited us a month ago. I do not think that we should overestimate the coincidence of the two visits. Bulgaria backs the negotiations within its means. This coincidence is an expression of a the evaluation that Bulgaria is a friendly country both to Israel and to Palestine,” Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov said after meeting with Israeli counterpart Simon Peres, FOCUS News Agency reporter informs.

Simon Peres, on the other hand, said that according to him, there is some positive development in the relations with the Palestinians.

“The most important issue in the agenda is to make peace with Palestine. I believe that Bulgaria is a good place for the Israeli and Palestinians to meet. This sounds like a self-invitation but I think that there is no better place than here,” Shimon Peres remarked.

The Israeli president added that he respects and trusts Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, as they are both working for peace.

For the first time the Palestinians are building their country with the help of Israel, Peres pointed out. In his words, the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has opened the West coast for economic cooperation. The two countries may be good neighbors instead of enemies, Peres added.
